Gratitude Journal no. 24

September 16, 2024

I am thankful for…

1. Steep downhills of life events. Life transitions, unexpected personal crises, unplanned expenses; when it rains it pours. As I’ve aged, I’ve realized that this is a downhill and there is a point where things will be back on the up. Surviving the fall is very difficult without exercise and support from friends, family, and community.

2. Running. It’s not something I always make time for, but when I do, I’m grateful that I’ve done it. It grounds me and keeps my mind in check.

3. Teaching myself to cook. I’ve put this off for too long. I avoided this skill because I’ve viewed it as a chore. As I cook more meals, I’m seeing it as a chance to learn and improve my health (and my family’s health). It’s taken me a while to realize the value, and I’m glad it’s now and not never.

If you’re new here

I decided to challenge myself to publish my personal writing more, starting January 2024. From pausing to deliberately reflect to getting more disciplined about creating for myself, I jumped into this goal. For a little more on this journey, check out my first public Gratitude Journal entry.
